Welcome to my humble blog...Jennifer and I met while we worked at Home Depot back in 1998. We were married in 2003, and now I am all alone at the Depot. We love our two boys, Thomas and Joshua, and our other two kids, Baby Girl (Lab mix) and T.J. (Chow/Shep Mix). There is no telling what you might find on here. It's all very random. I earned a Master's of Divinity degree (M. Div.) from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN, and did some additional work at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Jennifer is a stay at home mom and the Principal, Teacher, and Administrator of Reeder Christian Academy for our two boys. Since 2008, we have lived in Tyronza, Arkansas, where I am the Pastor at Barton Chapel Baptist Church.

Enter your email address and I'll let you know when I post something new. (What a great idea!)

Gentlemen, start your. . . vacuums?

WARNING!!!: THIS ENTRY IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT BE IN DANGER OF USING YOUR VACUUM, OR IF YOU HAVE A FEAR OF DIRTY CEILINGS, STOP NOW, IF NOT, READ ON.

I learned an important lesson today. I was doing a little cleaning this afternoon and thought, "Maybe I should clean that ceiling fan in the kitchen." So I got out the vacuum cleaner, hooked up the accessory hose and went to work. As I cleaned, I noticed a dust bunny or two hanging from the ceiling, so I just ran the hose over them. No big deal. As I looked on, I saw another, then another, then another. Good, they're all gone. Then my OCD kicked in. I stepped into the garage and grabbed my $10.00, 500 watt halogen work light. Big Mistake! As soon as I turned that sucker on, there they were! Hundreds of little dust bunnies hanging off the texture on the ceiling. I never saw them until I shined that dang light on them. So, I spent the next hour vacuuming the texture on the ceiling. It wasn't really hard, I just held the hose up there and let the vacuum do the work.

As I cleaned, a sudden truth shocked me. Isn't that what the Scriptures do to us? We stop paying attention to our own spiritual life and after a while, we don't see the little dust bunnies that settle on our hearts. Not great big glaring sins, just little things we let pull us away from a closer walk with God. Then all of a sudden, for whatever reason, the Scripture shines a big ole' light in there and we feel disgusting! I suppose that's why God's forgiveness and grace is so unique and wonderful. We don't really do anything to clean ourselves up, we just confess them to Him and let the power of God do all the work. Before we know it, we're clean again thanks to the power of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

So there's just a little spiritual thought from me to you, and by all means, unless you intend on getting that vacuum going, keep the halogen light in the garage.
